Feel the chill in the air? Time to begin thinking about protecting your outdoor furniture until spring.

Veranda patio chair coverWash your furniture with a mild liquid soap. Let dry thoroughly then store indoors or cover.   Of course, the ideal solution is to store indoors. I don’t have that luxury, so I embarked on an extensive search for the best covers I could afford. Here’s what I found.

A well-made cover should be made of heavy-duty, water-repellant fabric that protects against moisture damage from rain and snow, and resists cracking in extreme temperatures as well as built-in venting that allows air to circulate to prevent mold and mildew growth. The most durable covers will have reinforced seams and a tie to securely hold covers in place during windy conditions. In the spring, covers should be cleaned with a soft brush and lukewarm water and thoroughly air-dried prior to storing for the summer.
